Ina's Salve

Description

Ina (ee-nah) means “mother” in the Lakota language.

Ingredients: Sunflower Oil, Beeswax, Plantain, Calendula, Rose Petals

The recipe for Ina's Salve was created by Megan L. Bull Bear, a traditional Sičangu Lakota herbalist and mother to seven daughters. The plants used in this salve have a wide variety of medicinal benefits! Both calendula and rose petals are anti-inflammatory and gently heal scrapes and/or rashes on sensitive skin, and plantain soothes irritated skin and avoids infections. This salve is unscented, plant-based, and safe for both moms and babies!

Product comes in a 4oz glass jar.

Uses: For soothing relief of sore, dry, and cracked nipples after breastfeeding. For external use only.

How to Use: apply small amount to nipples immediately after breastfeeding

Salves should be kept in a cool, dry area.  Do not let salves freeze or melt as this will cause the consistency to be off. The product should still work as intended if this happens, but the consistency will make it more difficult to apply.

More effective than the average lip balm

I got this for use as a lip balm. I figured if it is indicated for use on nipples, where a baby will eventually nurse, it should be safe for my lips.
I was not advised against the use nor was I advised the use. Just FYI, I made the assumption myself and hold no one but myself accountable.
I chose this because I need something heavier than an oil, but not so heavy an ointment it gets all over my water bottle straws and gets float-away cat hair trapped on my lips.

It does what I need it to do. I have horrifically dry lips, and I am fairly certain it is from too-early use of big-brand-name balms loaded with chemicals and such that actually do not help lips recover, but just keep lips coated and protected. No matter how hydrated I am, they are dry. It doesn't help I will pick them if there is any texture.
This is lightweight, not oily or goopy, and protects, but also heals. I don't know that my lips will ever truly recover, but at least this seems to help.

I needed a balm or salve that was super low-ingredient, no dyes, no fragrances, no preservatives. I have more allergies and sensitivities than space in this field. I have dug through big brands, and the 1 big brand I could use discontinued the product. I had been eyeing Lakota Made products for some time, but had a stash of big brand I had to work through first. I am so glad I kept Lakota Made in my inbox, and finally ordered. I truly think because of how effective this salve is at such a small little dab, this will last much longer than the big box tube, and therefore is more affordable in the longterm.

This does not leave a nasty residue on any surfaces my lips touch, does not trap hair and fly-away fur, and does heal minor cracks and helps me get rid of the dry, textured skin much faster and easier.

Thank you!

Soulfully replenishing!

I can feel the difference in my body and see it externally too. It's quite nourishing and feels very comforting. A little goes a long way. It's dense but also somehow lightweight and melts into my skin. I love the ingredients and transparency I feel at best when collaborating with mother nature to help heal and soothe my body and every time I purchase one of her products I feel so at peace and grounded. Thank you for sharing your craft and traditions!

Soft and silky. I’m using it on my belly until baby comes, then it’s bipolar salve (as intended).
