Istima Pe Infused Honey


Istima Pe (ee- shtee-ma-pay) means sleep in the Lakota Language.

Ingredients: raw organic honey, hops, chamomile, blue vervain.

Product comes in an 8oz glass jar.

Dosage: 1-2 tablespoons as needed eaten or infused into coffee, teas, juices, or straight from the jar! Use 15-30 minutes before you sleep to get a restful nap or night of sleep.

Store in a cool dry area. If honey crystallizes, just run the jar under warm water and it will become liquid again.

Organic Raw Honey: In addition to being a sweet treat, honey has many medicinal virtues. According to a review in Pharmacognosy Research, it was historically used for a wide range of diseases, including eye diseases, bronchial asthma, throat infections, tuberculosis, thirst, hiccups, fatigue, dizziness, hepatitis, constipation, worm infestation, piles, eczema, ulcers, and wounds. Today, studies have validated many of these uses, especially in regards to respiratory illnesses (including sore throats and coughs), eye disease, and wounds and burns.

While honey alone offers potent medicine, infusing honey with medicinal herbs results in a simple yet powerful combination. Herbal honey is one of my favorite remedies, not only because of its safety and effectiveness, but also because this medicine can be made entirely from local ingredients, thus creating a beautiful and reciprocal relationship between plants, insects, and humans. We can grow the flowering plants that bees love; delight in their busy buzzing as they drink up the nectar; tend to their hives (or support local beekeepers); and then marry the resulting honey with herbal medicines for ourselves, friends, and family.

Hops: The dried, flowering part of the plant is used to make medicine. Hops is used for anxiety, inability to sleep (insomnia) and other sleep disorders, restlessness, tension, excitability, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), nervousness, and irritability.

Chamomile: in the form of an aqueous extract has been frequently used as a mild sedative to calm nerves and reduce anxiety, to treat hysteria, nightmares, insomnia and other sleep problems. Chamomile is widely regarded as a mild tranquillizer and sleep-inducer. Sedative effects may be due to the flavonoid, apigenin that binds to benzodiazepine receptors in the brain. Studies in preclinical models have shown anticonvulsant and CNS depressant effects respectively. Chamomile has been valued as a digestive relaxant and has been used to treat various gastrointestinal disturbances including flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea, anorexia, motion sickness, nausea, and vomiting. Chamomile has also been used to treat colic, croup, and fevers in children

Common cold (acute viral nasopharyngitis) is the most common human disease. It is a mild viral infectious disease of the upper respiratory system. Typically common cold is not life-threatening, although its complications (such as pneumonia) can lead to death, if not properly treated. Studies indicate that inhaling steam with chamomile extract has been helpful in common cold symptoms; however, further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Blue Vervain: often been used by herbalists as a nervine, meaning an herb that calms the nervous system. It's typically used as a tea for stress relief, anxiety, mood swings, and sometimes symptoms of depression.

The benefits of blue vervain for your mood are thought to come from a compound called verbenalin. It has calming and sleep-promoting properties that ease stress and frayed nerves. Vervain also has an uplifting effect on mood and won't make you groggy.

Not many studies have been done on vervain, but one from 2016 confirmed its anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties as well as anticonvulsant activity that could be helpful for seizures and epilepsy.
